Veteran's Award for Service to Archery in Western Australia for his contribution to Archery in Western Australia for over 35 years - ASWA Life membership.

William (Bill) Nicholson

Bill has been a member of the Archery Society for 33 years and on the ASWA Executive for seventeen years and has taken on many non-executive roles too

Prior to Archery becoming his life, he was living in the highlands of Scotland and had never even heard the English language. He now speaks Scottish (most of the time), English and is proficient in sign language.

He was sixteen when he started shooting and was a founding member of the Governor Stirling Archery Club in 1972.

In 1976, he became ASWA's youngest Treasurer and held that position for a number of years. During these years too he also managed to meet Heather and they married, and had two daughters Candice and Amber. He has really done his bit to recruit members and workers for ASWA.

As his marriage and daughters matured, Bill, and Heather, became more involved in developing our sport.

In the late 80's he joined the Archer Australia Rules Committee and stayed there for 5 years and then in 1992 it was our good fortune when he became the President of ASWA and held that position for 8 years. During that time too he was the Archery Australia's WA Board Member.

Still not busy enough, he was also the chairman of the 1996, 2000 and 2003 Nationals Committees and a committee member for four other Nationals and the 1988 Asia and Oceania Target Archery Championships.

There must have been a full moon or something in the 90's because since that time he has also been the ASWA Tournament Chairman for 4 years, Grand Prix Coordinator for 4 years, League Coordinator for 2 years, MAD Committee Chairman for 4 years, State Team Manager twice, National Judge, and Level 1 Coach

He has fitted twenty four terms of office into fourteen years.

Having said all of this, I have not even started to outline his club activities but you should know that he has been club president for 21 years, and was club secretary for 6 years, coaching for 13 years, and club delegate to ASWA for 5 years.

To add to his achievements, we now have the next generation coming through and are pleased to have Amber Nicholson chairing the State Selection Committee. All the way through too, Heather has been by his side.
