Archery Western Australia (formerly know as Archery Society of Western Australia) was founded in 1939 to be the peak governing body for the sport of Archery in Western Australia. It is the only archery group within WA, which is aligned with the Archery Association of Australia, and by direct links to the international body of World Archery.

Membership of the Association is provided via affiliation through one of our clubs. Membership is open to all individuals with older archers and juniors being an integral part of the Association's and local clubs' activities. This gives all affiliated archers (aged 16 and above) voting rights in the affairs of the Association and access to the other benefits of being a member. These include appropriate insurance and public liability coverage, the right to shoot in any state sanctioned event, State Championships, National Championships or other open international events sanctioned by the international body of World Archery.

The Association is run on a volunteer basis as are all the clubs. The Committee of the Association comprises a range of Executive and administrative officers plus a representative from each club, several committees and a number of individuals who represent the Association on external bodies such as the Olympic Council, Sports Federation, Shooting Association etc. These officers and committees meet once a month to deal with the business of the Association.

Members are actively encouraged to participate in the administration of the Association. Each year there are many people who volunteer their skills to fill positions within the committee and without them the Association would not function. These volunteers are often the people behind the scenes that have been responsible for the development of archery in this state.

The Association has hosted the 1996 National Junior Championships, the 1999 National Indoor Championships, the 2001 combined National Indoor and Outdoor Championships, the 2003 National Junior Championships the 60th Open National Championships in 2007, 29th Australian Junior Championships, National Crossbow Championships, 5th Australian Grand Prix,15th National Veterans Championships, 2017 70th Australian National Championships and 2018 Australian Open.

Each of these events was conducted to the highest standards and widely acclaimed by archers from around Australia and overseas visitors.
